Rich Adams is a Missoula-based artist
specializing in the native animals, landscapes, and portraits unique to the American West. His drawings explore the intricate detail found in nature and seek to show the versatility capable with pencil.

Kimberly Anderson is a self-taught visual artist who has lived in Missoula, MT since 1992. She primarily works in the mediums of acrylic, watercolor, charcoal and ink.

Janet McGahan studied privately with the late Tu Baixiong; she works in watercolor, oil and pastel. Her publications include a wildlife greeting card series for Pine Creek Graphics, illustrations for Giving Voice To Bear and The Nature of North America by David Rockwell, and cover art for Bitterroot by Jerry DeSanto. She was a participant and Quick Draw Artist during three C.M. Russell Auctions. She is a signature member of the Montana Watercolor Society and a member of the Oil Painters of America.
She has original works in private collections throughout the United States. Janet is represented by Grey Fox Gallery in Bozeman, Montana and Dana Gallery in Missoula, Montana. Janet is a Montana native, received her B.A. from the University of Montana and has lived with her family on the Jocko riverbottom near Arlee, Montana for 37 years.

Living in Missoula, I have captured many animals in their actual daily activities and transformed them into my artwork.

In addition to his acrylic, oil and watercolor painting, Monte continues to pursue his interest in traditional printmaking, having created numerous original lithographs. With his wife, Mary Beth Percival and staff, he operates a flourishing gallery in downtown Missoula. Monte and Mary Beth have traveled extensively in the US, Europe, Mexico, New Zealand and Japan, visiting important cultural sites and museums.

Watercolor Artist -specializing in portraits of children

I am a potter, especially interested in ceramic fountains and tea pots. I am currently exploring the merging of wheel-thrown and slab-built works. I have some work at Whooping Crones Gallery, which can be viewed on the gallery website.

I taught ceramics at my home studio in Florence, MT for two years, and recently moved into Missoula. I plan to start teaching again. Look for announcements in Feb. 2008.

Claire Emery is an artist, educator and naturalist. Her work focuses on illuminating Montana\'s rich natural and cultural history. She specializes in natural science illustration and is currently illustrating the upcoming Flora of Montana due out in 2010.

Her recent bold and detailed work in woodblock prints and wood engravings is found galleries and private collections around the world.
In her prints, she strives to convey the intrinsic beauty of her subjects through energetic, compelling line work and careful detail.

For the past 15 years, she has taught workshops around the nation and the local area on the art of keeping an illustrated natural history field journal. She specializes in field sketching, nature journaling, and drawing on nature to reveal insights about one's own life.

I began to explore the art of photography (1998) I have grown to see the world around me through many different angles. I feel this is a very important part of my character, because in capturing the best possible frame through different angles, I have learned that this technique can, and should be applied to life's challenging situations beyond the camera lens. The way a person overcomes these challenges is the key to their happiness, disappointments, successes and losses.

Specializing in pastel, Kathryn paints landscapes, mostly local, with an emphasis on rich color. Her work can be seen at the Upper Missouri Artists Gallery in Helena and Birds & Beasleys in Helena.

The Framing Studio will host an opening reception for artists Whitney Polich and Travis David Smith of Great Falls, Montana. Polich and Smith are graduates of the University of Montana who now reside in Great Falls, Montana. They have since returned to the state after two years in New Mexico. Polich was recently awarded a residency at the Paris Gibson Museum of Art in Great Falls. SMith was also awarded a residency at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont. The exhibition will present recent ceramic sculptures and paintings by each artist. The new works will address varying modes of being. The exhibition will run until January 1, 2011.

Hanna is a residency artist for many Montana schools and is a certified fine art and history instructor. She has lived in the valley for eleven years and works as both an artist and educator for Montana Alliance for the Arts, Montana Arts Council, Zootown Arts Community Center, and other organizations. She is currently the Founder and Arts and Programming Director at the Zootown Arts Community Center; a local arts non profit on the Northside of Missoula. Hanna served three years as a board member for VSA Arts of Montana. She teaches art to people with disabilities and works with Missoula youth in alternative settings. She is the proud owner of Hobbes the Wonder Dog and likes taking long walks with him through her neighborhood on the Northside of Missoula. In 2010, She received the YWCA Salute to Women Award (Rising Star) for her work in the Missoula Community. Her works include the following mediums: watercolor, pencil, ink, wax, wood, and vellum and acrylic paint. Animals, the plains, and rural areas have played a key role in her subject matter for years. The style of her drawings and prints are very shape heavy. She enjoys the process of taking her black and white photos, sketches, and drawings and breaking the images down to their basic shapes and composition for printmaking and painting.

Lucy McCoy paints wildlife in earth friendly acrylics with an emphasis on eyes, facial expression, texture and brushstrokes. After a long life of wildlife observation and a 30 year career as a Veterinarian she views animals as complex in their behavior, expressions and emotions. She's been portraying these subtleties on canvas for nearly 20 years.

Living in the mountains West of Missoula, Montana she feels privileged to live amongst wild creatures; Bighorn Sheep, Elk, Deer, Bear, Moose, Wolves, Mountain Lion and many others. She paints the wildlife she sees as co-inhabitants of the woods in a way that portrays them as individuals with intelligence, individual personalities, thoughts and concerns.

Jessie McGee was raised in Laurel, MT. She graduated from Laurel High School and attended college at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND where she earned her Bachelors degree in Education and minored in Music and History. In addition to her academia she also excelled in two collegiate sports, basketball and softball. Sports have always been a major part of her life, as has music. In 2007 her life was dramatically changed when she suffered a traumatic brain injury. She has since been opened up to a world of art. These are her interpretations of life, pain, and happiness. She hopes you find them intriguing as well as a source of inspiration and hope.

Amber Prouty is a 2010 BFA graduate of the University of Montana, Missoula. She works in multiple mediums, ranging from fiber based sculpture to drawing. Prouty is based in Missoula until one day going to Grad school.

Jonathan Qualben has devised a unique process that allows him to construct elegant wall-hung sculptures using thin layers of concrete. He has found a niche with his concrete figures, light of form in spite of an imposing material.

Workshop Wonders is pleased to announce the selection of Melanie Jeffs as Artist-in-Residence with the Hiawatha National Forest, Michigan for the summer of 2004. Melanie was selected from a pool of applicants submitted from all over the nation. After residing at the historic Farrell Cottage on Grand Island of Lake Superior, Ms. Jeffs is creating a ceramic tile mural reflective of the unique landscape and shoreline of Grand Island.

I am a ceramic artist, making highly decorated sculptural and functional forms in porcelain. I paint on greenware in a loose and expressionistic style using underglazes and slips colored with mason stains. Further embellishment is done through incising and scraping techniques.

In our studio in Missoula, we create handmade original furniture and home accessories. Most of our work is in wood although we also cast metal on a small scale and fuse glass. We collaborate with other artists too so you'll often see metal or concrete as well in our pieces. Our studio is generally open during regular business hours but call first, just in case.
